I can't control other people, governments or companies.
I can't control how people receive what I say.
But I can say what I say in a way that maximizes the chance that what is heard is what I mean.
Which is why I used this quote as the introduction to the chapter "Choose Your Words" in my book, "Hot Tips For Career Chicks" - as I think a little bit of change / compromise / thinking about your environment or audience is worth it if it helps make communication more effective.
And the only thing I can change is me.
